A peaceful street in India

We leave India, and the last place we visit is Gangtok, East Sikkim. If the rest of India struck us for the lack of regulations and the way some people abuse their freedom (we heard someone blaming this on Gandhi), the center of Gangtok is an example of the extreme opposite.

If in most of the cities of India pedestrians have to fight their way through the street, in Gangtok they have a whole street for themselves. Welcome to pleasant M G Marg.

A place where vehicles are not allowed, and prohibition signals are all around: no smoking (fines for doing so actually take place), no litter, no flower cutting, no spitting (this last campaign is for some reason sponsored by Vodafone).

M G Marg stands for Mahatma Gandhi Marg, a peaceful street dedicated to a peaceful leader, whose legacy can still be felt throughout the country.
